I had a great time appearing on Channel 9 News’ Bridge Street to discuss my novel, Valedictorian: An Origin Story!
We talked about the book’s Cazenovia roots, its themes of identity and choice, and its potential in the classroom as a story students want to read and teachers can use to explore literary elements and analysis.
Thanks to the Bridge Street team for such a wonderful experience!

Cazenovia High School’s own Project Café hosted Thomas Murlin for a behind-the-scenes look at his debut novel, Valedictorian: An Origin Story.
During the event, Murlin shared practical tips and insights into what it takes to write a novel, from developing an initial idea and building compelling characters to shaping a story and bringing it to completion. Drawing from his own experience as a first-time novelist, he offered the audience a glimpse into the challenges, decisions, and creative process behind writing a book.
Two Cazenovia High School students served as moderators, guiding the conversation and giving attendees the opportunity to learn directly from a local author about the craft of storytelling and the journey from idea to finished novel.
